He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!
This is Old Man Kennethan taking my notes from a sermon or book or podcast or whatever and share it with you. I am only talking for myself and what I received in the message.
Please listen to the full sermon by Pastor Adam Sinnett at Downtown Cornerstone.org.
#7 Trusting God When Life Hurts
“BUT, DID JOB DO ANYTHING WRONG?”
- Main message from Job?
- One message is don’t be like Job’s friends, but that is not the main message
- Job acknowledges he spoke wrongly
- Did Job speak all right things about God?
- Job spoke rightly in chap 42, not previous Job speeches
- Job humbled himself
- Our circumstances are not actual indicators of…
- Its not wrong to ask why, or lament or…
- In Jesus we are perfectly love by God
“HOW DO WE TRUST GOD WHEN LIFE HURTS?”
#1 Set the eyes of your heart on the Lord (42:1).
- Job answered the Lord
- Proactive and xxx of our trust in God
- Turn to God
#2 Embrace the unrivaled sovereign goodness of God (42:2).
- Good, not capricious
- We are responsible for our actions
- God sovereignty and man’s responsibility
#3 Trust that, in his infinite wisdom, everything he does is good and right (42:3).
- God’s way and wisdom are for beyond our ways and wisdom
- Bank our lives in Go’s infinite wisdom
- Swim in the scriptures to sustain and support us.
#4 Repent of small god-syndrome (42:6).
- Turn to God
- Don’t keep God on the periphery
#5 Pour out your heart in Godward lament (e.g. Job 3).
- Messy and unedited
- Come as you are
- Don’t wait for the proper or right moment
- Lament - tell God what is wrong
#6 Wait for him, with him. (42:10-17).
- Waiting for him - we are waiting with him as Jesus is always with us
- Absence of movement doesn’t mean absence in presence
- Seasons of waiting can be part of the healing
TAKE COMFORT FROM THE CROSS
- God became man for a purpose
- A forever relationship with Him
- Comfort from the cross - God came to rescuce and redeem us
- God will never leave us
- Rom 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
